Senator-Elect Mike Brubaker named Chairman of Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee

HARRISBURG – State Senator-Elect Mike Brubaker announced today that he has been named Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee for the 2007-2008 legislative term.

"I am honored to be entrusted with this opportunity, and accepting the chairmanship of this committee reaffirms my commitment to serving this Commonwealth and the people of the 36th Senatorial District," Brubaker said.

"My district has a large farming base, and as the number one industry in Pennsylvania, agriculture plays a vital role in our economic health and growth," Brubaker said. "Not only will the issues we discuss in the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee directly impact many of my constituents, but they will have a broader effect on the entire Commonwealth as well."

"I have also worked extensively in various aspects of the agriculture industry, and I am pleased to be able to offer my experience to the Senate in this capacity," Brubaker said.

The Senator-Elect received a B.S. in Agronomy from West Virginia University, and is the founder and former owner of Brubaker Consulting Group, Inc., which he grew into the fifth-largest agricultural consulting company in the United States. He is also a member of the Susquehanna River Basin Commission's Agricultural Advisory Committee, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the Pennsylvania Grange, and the Penn State University Agricultural Advisory Council, in addition to other organizations.

"I am looking forward to an exciting term working with my colleagues in the state Senate and on this committee," Brubaker said. "I firmly believe that by working together, there is much we can accomplish to keep Pennsylvania and its agriculture industry moving forward in the future."
