For Immediate Release
Mike Brubaker officially sworn in as state Senator for the 36th
District Named Chair of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Vice Chair of Aging and Youth Committees
"It is a privilege to serve the people
of Lancaster and Chester counties, and I consider it an honor that they
selected me as their representative," Brubaker said following the
swearing-in ceremony. "It makes me proud and happy to know
that I have been given this opportunity to make a difference for my district
and the entire Commonwealth. I do not take this responsibility lightly, and
there are many issues I am looking forward to addressing on behalf of my
constituents," Brubaker continued. Brubaker's priorities include improving
Pennsylvania's business climate, making communities safer, and ensuring that
the state is spending taxpayer dollars wisely. The Senator has also pledged
to fight for laws that honor the core values of his constituents and those
that make government more open and responsive to the people. In addition, Brubaker has received his
committee assignments for the 2007-2008 legislative session, which include
both a chairmanship and a vice chairmanship. Brubaker will be the Chairman of the
Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee and the Vice Chairman of the
Senate Aging and Youth Committee. He has also been named to the Senate
committees on Environmental Resources and Energy, State Government and Local
Government. "My background in agricultural and
environmental issues makes those two committees perfect fits for me,"
Brubaker added. "Agriculture is our state's leading industry, and it is
absolutely essential that we promote policy and legislation that help
maintain and grow this critical component of our economy. In addition,
agricultural policy and environmental policy often go hand in hand." "I also feel very
strongly about the potential we have to develop alternative energies and
technologies and plan to work to see that the Commonwealth makes progress in
this area," Brubaker said. As Vice Chair of the
Aging and Youth Committee, Brubaker will work closely with matters such as
long-term care, PACE/PACENET and other senior citizen programs, and will help
address concerns surrounding child care facilities, child support and child
abuse. "Clearly, the Aging and
Youth Committee works on behalf of some of our most vulnerable citizens, and I
am excited by this chance to provide assistance to them as well as to work with
Senator Pat Vance (R-Cumberland), who chairs the committee," Brubaker said. "My assignment to the
State Government Committee will allow me to be a part of the government reform
efforts the Senate focuses on this year," Brubaker said. Brubaker also noted
that he will be able to draw on his experience as a local elected official to
help analyze the legislation that comes before him in the Local Government
Committee. "I am looking forward to working with my colleagues and to having a productive legislative session," Brubaker said. "I am committed to a high level of constituent service, and I encourage anyone who has questions or concerns, or who needs assistance with a state program or agency, to contact my office."
