Brubaker Launches Hunger Caucus Website
HARRISBURG – Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-36) today announced the
creation of a website to provide information on legislative actions to address
hunger issues in Pennsylvania.
The Hunger Caucus website,
www.senatorbrubaker.com/hungercaucus.htm, includes information on state
initiatives to prevent food insecurity as well as contact information for a
number of organizations that can provide assistance to Pennsylvanians in need.
"As one of the world's leading food producers, we are in a
strong position to provide for state residents who need assistance to avoid food
insecurity," Brubaker said. "This new website will give many Pennsylvanians
vital information and the resources they need to eliminate hunger."
The Hunger Caucus held its first meeting on Monday, and
video and audio of the entire meeting are available on the Hunger Caucus
website. The hearing featured testimony from Central Pennsylvania Food Bank
Executive Director Kendall Hanna and Department of Agriculture Secretary Dennis
Wolff, who testified Monday that nearly 1 in 10 state residents were at risk for
food insecurity.
Brubaker has met with 20 not-for-profit organizations
working to feed Pennsylvanians in need during his tenure in the Senate, and he
is planning a hunger awareness event with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter in
the future to highlight the danger of food insecurity and promote programs
available to help those at risk for hunger. Brubaker also received training on
the annual national hunger survey and is scheduled to participate in the survey
to gather information on the scope of the problem and examine possible
solutions.
Brubaker co-chairs the Hunger Caucus with Rep. John Myers
(D-201).
